International Overdose Awareness Day 2024 — “Together We Can”

International Overdose Awareness Day 2024 at SHARC — “Together We Can”

International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to acknowledge and end overdose. The campaign raises awareness of overdose, which is one of the world’s worst public health crises, and stimulates action and discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy. The campaign also acknowledges the profound grief felt by all those affected by overdose. This year’s theme was ‘Together We Can’.

On 3 September 2024, the community came together at Gordon Storey Hall to reflect, share, and support one another. Over 80 people were in attendance.

Jen Furby, Marg Quon and Fran Williamson shared impactful and personal perspectives about their journeys with overdose, the challenges they have faced since, and the importance of coming together to support and educate people. These personal reflections were followed by a moment for all attendees to place stones at SHARC’s memorial tree.

We want to thank everyone who could attend this year’s International Overdose Awareness Day. Your presence was impactful and valued. As highlighted in this year’s theme, our voices are more powerful together.
